When it comes to wedding photography in Canberra, you are spoilt for choice! We are so lucky to have so many talented photographers in this city!

But with having a lot of photographers comes the issue of how much should you be paying? What's the average price of wedding photography in Canberra?

Well I'm here to help, at least I hope!

According to Easy Weddings, the average cost of a wedding in the ACT in 2023 was $30,750.
Of that an average of $2,931 is spent on wedding photography.
Not bad in the scheme of things right?

To dig a little deeper, you can expect to pay anything from $2,000 - $5000 for a wedding photographer in Canberra heading into 2024, and 2025.

Now with Wedding photography being one of the first services couples book for their big day, its an important decision. So lets break down why you could be paying more or less than your friends -

The biggest factor in the cost of wedding photography is how long you want your photographer with you on the day. Anywhere from one hour, through to 12 hours could be offered in your photographers chosen packages. Now this will really depend on your day, and will vary from couple to couple. What do you both want captured? What will you be sad if you don't have professional photos of?

The next factor will be inclusions within the wedding photography packages. Are you getting prints, or albums included? Will you get an engagement session? Will your photographer happily catch with you for a coffee to talk over details (spoiler - yes I will).

Again this comes down to what's important to you both.
If your chosen package is missing something you want, its not the end of the world. You can chat to your photographer about adding it as an extra -just check how this will change your pricing.

Another big factor in pricing is will you have a single photographer, or will they bring a second shooter? A second shooter just means will they have another photographer with them on the day, to help get photos from different angles, wrangle family for photos, and carry stuff around. Most photographers are happy to chat about this option if it's something you're looking for.

The final factor in the cost of a wedding photographer is experience.

As a general rule photographers will charge less when they are starting out, or building their portfolio. If you think a price is too good to be true, then it could be.

No matter how nice the photographers website is, always, ALWAYS ask to see a full wedding day. This includes any getting ready photos, the ceremony, family photos, formals and reception.
If you think a price is too good to be true, then it could be. Nowadays it's very easy to fake a website, or pretend to be more experienced that you are online. And the last thing you want is to get back photos that don’t capture the day, or aren't what you were promised.

So - the average cost of a wedding photographer in Canberra sits around that $3,000 mark.
There are lots of reasons it could be more, or less, and it all comes down to what you care about, and want to capture on your day.
